📷It’s been over 9 years since I had my last piece of chocolate, and I still dream of taking a bite. Oh how its sweet aroma still captures my attention and peaks my senses whenever it’s close by!
You see, I was addicted to chocolate. Every Sunday I looked forward to picking up a hot chocolate brownie, extra fudge with a scoop of ice cream, and riding out with my sisters or bundling up with my bowl at my parents’ place as my family laughed and watched the kids play. I enjoyed eating chocolate candy bars and slices of rich chocolate cake during the holidays. I never drank alcohol, smoked, or been a party type; so if there was anything that could be considered my guilty pleasure, it was chocolate.
Chocolate was my friend; so I thought. It wasn’t until I began to experience unexplained health problems that I learned that I could live without it. Months after having my daughter, Destiny, my hair began to fall out, weight began to drop, and nerves began to go haywire. My body was out of control. I underwent months of blood work and other invasive testing. Finally, news came. It was bitter sweet. Literally! My doctor informed me that blood work indicated that I was suffering from hyperthyroidism, also known as an overactive thyroid. This condition is made worse by caffeine.
But wait! Chocolate has caffeine. This meant the very thing that I loved, dearly, was bad for me.
Desperate for relief, I did what was necessary and let it go. I mean, at the end of the day, nothing was more important than my health. I had to give up something I loved so I could have the opportunity to take care of something I loved more, my Destiny. To this day, I still find myself sacrificing things that feel good to me because they are not good for me.
Sometimes life requires us to let go of something good for something greater. Those decisions won’t always feel good. When you begin to love your “destiny” you will begin to disconnect from anything that could possibly endanger it. You may have to walk away from toxic environments and unhealthy relationships in order to preserve what you have or are carrying. Don’t hesitate. Once you decide you want the best life, you must be willing to accept the fact that good things have to fall off so better things can come. Don't fret, in the end, it will be worth it.
